LoA (Level of Assurance or Level of Authentication)

LoA (Level of Assurance or Level of Authentication) refers to the strength of the authentication mechanism that you used to login to your organisation. Values range from 1 (lowest) to 4 (highest). Usernames and passwords usually have an LoA of 1, the lowest level of authentication. To obtain a higher LoA you will need to use a stronger authentication mechanism such as a public key certificate from a Certification Authority or a one time password generated by an electronic device. If you are not happy with the LoA provided by your organisation you will need to contact them to ask if they offer stronger mechanisms for authenticating you than the current one you have used
