Useful Tools

We have found the following tools to be particularly useful for manipulating and managing the different components that make up a PERMIS Authorisation infrastructure
  1. The LDAP Browser from by Jarek Gawor is a powerful Java application that allows you to browse the contents of LDAP directories, extract the attributes from the entries, and add new values.
  2. JXplorer LDAP Browser is an open source ldap browser originally developed by Computer Associates' eTrust Directory development lab. It is a standards compliant general purpose ldap browser that can be used to read and search any ldap directory, or any X500 directory with an ldap interface.
  3. MAXWare Directory Explorer is another LDAP browser - this one embeds itself into Windows Explorer
  4. The BER viewer by Aram Perez provides you with a simple tool to view the attribute certificates that you have created with the PERMIS Attribute Certificate Manager.
  5. GUIdumpASN is a tool by GEMINI Security Solutions that helps you to view BER-encoded structures, like attribute certificates.
  6. GQ is a popular LDAP browser for Linux that allows you to modify, add and create entries. Its easy to install and is currently being maintained and enhanced.
