1 ) DEFINITIONS
----------------------
1.1 The term "ISSRG"
refers to the Information Systems Security Research Group based at the
University of Kent.
1.2 The term "SOFTWARE"
refers to any binary materials related to the PERMIS project, compiled
by the University of Kent, and downloaded from its computers. The SOFTWARE
is the sole property of ISSRG and protected by English, International Copyright
Law, e.g. the Revised Berne Convention, and the US Copyright Act.
The SOFTWARE is "in
use" when it is loaded into random access memory or installed on a hard
disk or other storage device (other than a network server). Installing
the SOFTWARE on a network server solely for the purpose of internally distributing
the SOFTWARE shall not constitute "in use",provided that you have a license
for each computer to which the SOFTWARE is distributed. If the number of
users of the SOFTWARE is reasonably anticipated to exceed the number of
corresponding licenses, you shall ensure that the number of concurrent
users does not exceed the number of licenses.
1.3 The term "written
materials" applies to all documentation and files concerning the PERMIS
project that does not form part of the SOFTWARE, including user guides,
installation guides, frequently asked questions, configuration files.
2 ) TERMS &
CONDITIONS

2.1 Under the terms
of this license you may:
a - Use the enclosed
SOFTWARE solely for the purposes of Academic Research and Teaching; and;
b - Copy the SOFTWARE
and written materials for archival purposes, or copy the Software and written
materials to a single hard disk, provided that you retain the original
for archival purposes.
2.2 You shall not:
a - Copy, modify
or distribute the written materials without the written permission of the
ISSRG;
b - Use, copy, modify,
translate or merge the SOFTWARE except as provided in this agreement;
c - Reverse-engineer,
dissemble, or decompile the SOFTWARE;
d - Sublicense,
rent, lease, or assign any portion of the SOFTWARE;
e - Transfer the
SOFTWARE or written materials to any other party except by express prior
written permission of ISSRG; or
f - Use the SOFTWARE
for any commercial or profit-making activity.
3 ) COPYRIGHT
-------------------
The SOFWARE and
written materials are owned by ISSRG and are protected by English Copyright
laws and international treaty provisions. You shall treat the SOFTWARE
and written materials like any copyrighted material.
4 ) LIMITED WARRANTY
-------------------------------
Except as expressly
stated herein, the Software and written materials are provided "AS IS."
You shall be entirely responsible for the selection of the SOFTWARE and
for the installation of, use of, and results obtained from, the SOFTWARE.
All other warranties
or conditions, either express or implied, including but not limited to
implied warranties of merchantibility or fitness for a particular purpose,
with respect to the SOFTWARE and written materials are excluded from the
license.
5 ) NO LIABILITY
FOR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES

To the maximum extent
permitted by applicable law, in no event shall ISSRG be liable for any
damages whatsoever (including, without limitation, damages for loss of
profits, business interruption, loss of information, or any other pecuniary
loss) arising out of the use or inability to use this SOFTWARE, even if
ISSRG has been advised of the possibility of such damages.
6 ) GENERAL
----------------
You shall not export
or re-export this SOFTWARE or written materials, or any portion thereof.
This license and your right to use the SOFTWARE and written materials shall
terminate automatically if you violate any part of this agreement. In the
event of termination, you shall immediately destroy all copies of the SOFTWARE
and written materials or return them at your expense to ISSRG.
This agreement constitutes
the entire agreement between you and ISSRG and supersedes any prior agreement
concerning the contents of this SOFTWARE and written materials. It shall
not be modified except by written agreement dated subsequent to the date
of this agreement signed by an authorised representative of ISSRG.
ISSRG shall not be
bound by any provision of any purchase order,
confirmation, correspondence,
or otherwise, unless ISSRG specifically agrees to the provision in writing.
This agreement shall
be considered as a contract made in England and according to English Law,
subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English Courts.

This license is only applicable
to PERMIS binary software distributions. OpenPERMIS is not covered by this
license and a separate BSD license is embedded in all the OpenPERMIS source
code modules.
